ALL SUFFERING HAS AN END (ingles)

ALL SUFFERING HAS AN END
(ensallo en ingles sobre el libro "I am David")
(Rocío González)

When we finished reading “I am David” I was shocked. I didn’t cry, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoyed the book and either that it was not moving to me. The ones who cried went outside the school and almost forgot about it, but I couldn’t. I remained quiet thinking about the book without paying attention to what was happening around me, until I was asked what was wrong.

“I am David” is the most enjoyable book I have ever read. One of the causes of this is the main character, David, who I really admire.96
I admire David because, spite of all he had passed through, he still had hope and he never gave up. While I read David’s story I could realize how wonderful my life is, and how I still give up when a conflict appears.
On one hand, I have company, love, protection and resources. When some problem is in my way (nothing compared with David’s problems), first, I try to solve it, but if I fail I feel immediately trapped without any way out. In those situations, my family and friends help me to overcome my conflicts.
On the other hand, David was alone in life, didn’t had food or shelter, and more important, he had lived horrible experiences. But David always hoped a better future and although he was tired and hungry, he never gave up and so continued his way. Although he had nobody to protect him or to love him, he still continued his way.

The part of the book that I can associate with me is the one where it says that when David entered the house, he had seen what he could never possess and so nothing would ever again appear quite so good and satisfying as it had done before.
What David thinks is completely true. Sometimes, especially in our age, we ignore what we have and only pay attention on what we could have.
That means that we always want to possess more than what we already have and that we look on the things others possess instead of enjoying ours.

Before escaping the concentration camp, David had only experienced death, sorrow and suffering; but in his trip, he discovered how wonderful life could be.
By escaping from his prison, he discovered freedom; when he expected the view in his first morning outside the camp, he discovered beauty; in Maria’s house, he discovered love, company and protection, as he also did with his dog.
All these things are very normal for me, but for David they were so special. For David, these things were the only reason to keep on living. This situation made me realize all that I possess and I don’t appreciate as I should, because they have a lot of importance in my life.
I can associate this with the now a day’s situation: kids who live in the street without food or shelter. Although I know this is happening, I never paid attention on how special my life is, and so I continued asking for more and forgetting what I already possess.

The part of David’s story that was more moving to me was the one where David was saved by his dog. The dog was really important for David because he represented the company, love and protection he had never had after Johannes’s death, he was like a father for him. After the dog took David’s place to save his life, David cried for days until he understood that it had been the dog’s decision and that he had to respect it. It was the first time somebody did such a thing for David.
In my opinion, this is the more moving part of “I am David” because this happens all the time: people loose persons they really love and they feel sad for a long time.
It’s important always to remember that all suffering has an end if you wait enough time. Sorrow is like people: they both are born, live and die, and when they die they only exist in our memory.
I have never experienced real sorrow or suffering in my life, but I’m really afraid of it. For this reason, I can’t relation this phrase with me, but I will try to always remember it so as to, if some day I experience suffering (I hope I am not), understand it and live it.

Finally, I think I have learned a lot from David and his story. I learned to always have hope and never give up, to enjoy what I possess and don’t compare it with better things; I learned to be a better person.
